GM recalls 1.3M Vehicles for Power Steering Defect

Another General Motors recall was issued, affecting 1.3 million vehicles that may experience a sudden power steering loss. According to GM, drivers will know instantly if the power steering system fails, but because steering will become more difficult, the vehicles are still more susceptible for collisions.

Cars included in the latest recall include:

  • Chevrolet Malibu: All 2004 and 2005 models, and some from model years 2006, 2008, and 2009.
  • Chevrolet Malibu Maxx: All 2004 and 2005 models, and some from 2006.
  • Chevrolet HHR: Some non-turbocharged models from 2009 and 2010.
  • Chevrolet Cobalt: Some model year 2010 vehicles.
  • Saturn Aura: Some model year 2008 and 2009 vehicles.
  • Saturn Ion: All models from 2004 through 2007.
  • Pontiac G6: All model year 2005, and some from model years 2006, 2008, and 2009.

GM will replace the power steering motor or steering column, or both, in all affected vehicles.

Owners of GM vehicles are reeling after the manufacturer announced another recall following the CEO’s testimony to Congress over safety lapses. GM’s ignition switch recall, which is blamed for 12 deaths in the U.S. and one in Canada, is under scrutiny by the U.S. government.
