Finding Dangerous Intersections in San Francisco

San Francisco is the cultural and financial center of Northern California. Its land area spans 46.9 miles, with a density of nearly 18,200 people per square mile, making it the second most densely populated city in the nation, with New York City being the first.

Due to San Francisco’s densely populated areas, tourists and residents alike are in danger of being injured or killed in a pedestrian or bicycle accident. Each year in San Francisco, 30 people are killed and more than 200 are seriously injured, making it a dangerous city to walk and ride. Not only are these deaths tragic, they are preventable.

In an effort to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities, San Francisco has adopted Vision Zero, a community initiative that aims to create a safe and vibrant place for residents.

How Safe Is Your Bicycling Route?

If you live or work in San Francisco, we encourage you to become familiar with this interactive map, developed by Vision Zero SF.

The map shows how many cyclists have been injured or killed in the city, and it shows where the high injury corridors are located throughout the city.

Once you click on the link, you can zoom in to see where San Francisco’s most dangerous intersections are located. For example, our office is located at 44 Montgomery Street, Suite 750, in San Francisco.

When we zoomed in to our location, we discovered a high-injury corridor located at Market Street, between Steuart Street and 2nd Street, not far from our office.

What is Vision Zero SF?

Vision Zero SF was developed to protect pedestrians and cyclists using the streets of San Francisco. The goal of Vision Zero is to build safer streets and to protect the one million people that move about the city every day. In response to the high numbers of pedestrian and cyclist injuries that occur in the city each year, San Francisco has made a commitment to stop further loss of life, and we strongly support these efforts.

At Rouda Feder Tietjen & McGuinn, we commend Vision Zero SF for this collaborative citywide effort to make our streets safer. Since 1980, we have concentrated our efforts on helping injured victims obtain the compensation they deserve and making San Francisco a safer community.

Our compassion and dedication to our clients has earned us numerous recognitions, including being ranked in the first tier of San Francisco personal injury firms by U.S. News – Best Lawyers®, and one of the 2014 “Best Law Firms” by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers®.
