Harley- Davidson is recalling over 300,000 bikes worldwide after identifying a brake light defectin some of its models. The malfunction is caused by the brake light switches becoming exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system. The excess heat leads the brake lights to fail or even the rear brakes to stop working.
In a statement, Harley-Davidson said that it first became aware of the problem in June 2010 when a Trike motorcycle lost its rear braking system because of the brake light problem. Again, in July 2010, Harley sent investigators to Louisiana after another bike was involved in collision. One person was injured in that accident. Harley-Davidson maintains that it has not yet determined whether the brake light defect caused that crash.
