A pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck by a car at the corner of Harrison and 7th Streets in San Francisco. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian crossed Harrison Street on a green light but had not made it fully across the street by the time the light turned red. Cars in three lanes of oncoming traffic stopped to let the pedestrian pass but a car in the fourth lane moved into the intersection and struck the pedestrian. A police spokesman took the opportunity to remind drivers that when a pedestrian begins crossing the street legally and the traffic light changes, vehicles still must yield to pedestrians and allow them to finish crossing the street.
