A Sacramento light-rail train slammed into an SUV killing three people, including a 22-month-old baby, in what has been called one of the worst light-rail accidents in the history of the Sacramento rail system. A fourth passenger was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The train hit the SUV on 26th Avenue, pushing the car some 20 yards. The SUV then flipped over. Witnesses say the train ran directly into the side of the SUV. The train driver tried to apply the emergency brake before the crash, but was unable to stop the train. Inside the light-rail train, 17 passengers were injured. Six were taken to a nearby hospital.
