Passenger Killed in Possible DUI Motorcycle Crash

The Eureka Police Department is investigating a motorcycle crash that resulted in the fatality of 30-year-old Cara Banducci. Ms. Banducci was a passenger on a motorcycle that veered off Waterfront Drive in Eureka. The motorcycle slid over a curb before hitting a sign pole. Ms. Banducci had severe head and neck injuries at the accident site. She later died of her injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle is a former Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy. First responders on the scene suspected the driver was intoxicated. While police would not confirm the results of a blood test taken at the scene, the driver was later jailed on suspicion of felony DUI and driving without a license.
