An initial investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) suggests that unsafe speed was a critical factor in a tragic big-rig crash on I-680. The collision claimed the life of 49-year-old San Jose resident, Hieu Huynh.
According to the CHP, the big-rig driver was driving too fast when he lost control of a trailer carrying broccoli. The big-rig was travelling on the curved eastbound McKee Road ramp headed towards northbound I-680. The trailer tipped over directly onto a Camry exiting on westbound McKee Road. Huynh was a right-side passenger in the Camry at the time of the accident.
The driver of the big-rig was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Camry, believed to be Huynh’s daughter, was also taken to the hospital with injuries.
