The Alliance for Biking and Walking has released its 2012 Benchmarking Report. The report looks at the nation’s bike and pedestrian traffic, funding and safety. The Alliance analyzes data from all 50 states and from 51 of the nation’s largest cities. This year’s report marked some positive trends for bike and pedestrian activists: the share of all trips made by biking or walking has increased and federal funding for biking and pedestrian projects has inched upwards. However, biker and pedestrian fatalities have also risen since the 2010 report. The bi-annual report comes just as Congress considers creating a new surface transportation law.
