On the morning of March 20, 2014, police were called to San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley to investigate an injured person at the intersection of Bayshore Boulevard and Visitacion Avenue. The victim, Oi Yeung, 82, of San Francisco, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses saw a white Dodge Durango with a black roof rack strike the victim. The vehicle struck the woman while turning left on a solid green light, failing to yield to the pedestrian. The driver continued north for one block before making a U-turn to investigate the result of the collision. The driver then sped away.
San Francisco Police located the Dodge Durango about a week after the fatal pedestrian accident and interviewed the registered owner of the vehicle, which had not been reported as stolen. SFPD did not identify Stubbs as the owner of the Dodge Durango, but noted that talking to the owner helped investigators lead to her arrest. Nidra Stubbs is currently not in custody after posting $80,000 bail. She is scheduled to return to court on April 16, 2014.
This is the sixth pedestrian fatality of the year and the 12th since December 2013. According to witnesses, the woman was in the crosswalk with the right-of-way.
