CHP Produces Stack of Violations after Deadly Pittsburg Big-Rig Accident

An out-of-control big rig crashed into a Pittsburg restaurant on March 16th, killing the driver and causing extensive property damage. One witness said that he could tell something was wrong with the vehicle after smelling brakes. The truck crashed into two cars at an intersection before veering off the road into the restaurant, causing an explosion on impact. The witness believes that the truck was going as fast as 90mph when it crashed into the building.

Further investigation by news agencies demonstrated the truck was owned by Roby Trucking which has a history of safety violations, according to the CHP. These include:

  • Brake problems
  • Steering problems
  • Overloading
  • Mechanical violations
  • Poor record keeping

In a roadside inspection, one truck was even found to be overloaded by 16,000 pounds.
