Em Feder Cooper
About
Em is a born and bred New Yorker and carries that energy with her to her life here in California. She moved out west after graduating from NYU Law for her Public Interest Fellowship in class actions and is thrilled by her new proximity to nature and wine country, and the rich East Bay communities she's developing across improvisation, standup, and political activism.
Em became a lawyer with the goal of advancing gender justice and advocating for families across various aspects of life. She is particularly driven to create meaningful change not only through litigation, but also through future work in public policy and legislation.
She currently focuses her practice on Eaton fire cases, where she advocates for individuals and families impacted by the devastating wildfire in Altadena, California in 2025.
Em earned her law degree from NYU School of Law, where she was awarded the Kaye Writing Prize for her work on employment classification under Title VII. She also served on the Moot Court Board as a casebook staff writer and editor. Em’s research in law school focused on the legal implications of interstate distribution of medication abortion pills, intersectional sex- and race-based employment discrimination, and psychological trauma of workplace sexual harassment and the importance of expert witnesses in these cases. Thanks to her coursework on discrimination theory and law, Em is passionate about exposing unlawful harms perpetrated by cosmetics companies and amending the Federal Drug and Cosmetics Act of 1938.
She received her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, where she was recognized on the Dean’s List and held several leadership roles, including Co-President of the National Psychology Honors Society, Student Government, and founder of a campus initiative promoting sexual consent awareness.
Em is passionate about speaking Spanish both in her personal and professional life. In her spare time, Em also loves to bike, explore the outdoors, travel, and attend as many arts performances and culinary experiences as possible! She knows all the best spots for gluten free cupcakes in the Bay.
Em was admitted to practice law in California in 2023.
