The Western Trial Lawyers Association (WTLA) hosted its 2025 Hawaii Seminar at Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, Hawaii, from June 1 to June 5—and Attorney-Partner June Bashant of Rouda Feder Tietjen & McGuinn was featured as a key speaker. On Monday, June 2, Attorney Bashant took to the podium to discuss teen cannabis vape litigation and complex discovery in mass tort cases.

In recent years, concerns have spiked about high-potency THC products marketed to teenagers and the products’ links to severe mental health effects. In California alone, the reported emergency room visits for cannabis-induced psychosis (CIP) among teenagers rose from 682 visits in 2016 to 1,053 in 2019. The problem has become so widespread that the attorneys of Rouda Feder Tietjen & McGuinn have handled numerous CIP cases, including a first-of-its-kind lawsuit against the popular cannabis brand STIIIZY.

Furthermore, Attorney June Bashant is one of the members of the Cannabis Victims Law Center (CVLC). This group provides legal assistance and advocacy for teens and families who have specifically been harmed by cannabis vaping products, especially those that are marketed to be appealing to teenagers and make little to no warning about the risk of cannabis-induced psychosis.

Using her experience as a Partner of Rouda Feder Tietjen & McGuinn and a cornerstone member of the Cannabis Victims Law Center, Attorney June Bashant addressed the many attendees of the WTLA 2025 Hawaii Seminar. She shared her knowledge and insight to a room of legal professionals to better equip them for future mass torts and lawsuits related to cannabis vape products. After all, with the growing crisis of CIP among teenagers, it is likely only a matter of time before many more of the attorneys in attendance have a client with a CIP lawsuit on their hands.
