A worker died in a San Mateo construction accident on May 20, 2014. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
According to witnesses, the man fell about 15 feet from the top of a wall he was helping to construct on a townhouse building. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified.
The accident occurred at the former Bay Meadows racetrack in San Mateo. The site, located on McCown Avenue, is set to be turned into apartments and townhomes. The developer, TRI Pointe Homes, has not issued a statement about the incident. Cal/OSHA has opened an investigation and plans to cite the company if they violated any workplace safety procedures.
