San Francisco Adopts Vision Zero

|

The streets of San Francisco should be safe for all, whether we walk, ride a bicycle, take a cab or drive. As residents live, work and play in the City by the Bay, no one should be in danger while using the streets and intersections throughout the city.

Zero traffic fatalities in San Francisco by the year 2024 – that is what Vision Zero San Francisco is all about. Community members, city officials and employees have come together to make San Francisco’s streets safe for all.

Vision Zero SF is a citywide effort where safety comes first. The goal of Vision Zero is to create a vibrant and lively city that is safe for residents and tourists alike where they can move about freely without fear of being injured in a traffic accident.

Vision Zero SF: the City’s Road Safety Policy

Vision Zero SF was adopted in the City and County of San Francisco in 2014. The policy was designed to:

  • Build better and safer streets
  • Educate the public on traffic safety
  • Adopt new policies that save lives
  • Create a culture that prioritizes traffic safety

The goal of Vision Zero SF is to eliminate traffic fatalities by the year 2024. Why do we need it? Each year, over 200 people are seriously injured and another 30 are killed while traveling the streets of San Francisco. These tragedies are preventable.

San Francisco city agencies and officials are taking the initiative to protect everyone traveling in San Francisco. From education to enforcing traffic laws, to improving public policy, Vision Zero SF is the driving force behind a safer San Francisco.
