Six-Year-Old Qwentyn Hunter Drowns on Carnival Cruise Ship

A six-year-old drowned in one of the polls on a Carnival cruise ship while at sea. Qwentyn Hunter of Winter Garden, Florida was with his 10-year-old brother in the pool. Cruise passengers pulled the boy from the water and began CPR, but Qwentyn was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ship was on the last leg of a four-day Caribbean cruise at the time of the drowning. The ship docked at Port Miami the next day. The ship carried just over 3,000 guests and 1,100 staff members.

According to Carnival Cruise Lines officials, this is the first time a child has drowned aboard one of their ships. Last year, a young boy nearly drowned on a Disney cruise.

The drowning appears to be accidental and foul play is not suspected.

Cruise ships are not required to have lifeguards on duty.
