Medical Error Leads to Oakland Woman's Death

A patient at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center has died as a result of an error by a replacement nurse. Devastated family and friends of Judith Ming, 55, fondly remember the Oakland resident as a ‘big-hearted chatterbox’, loved by many for her kind and welcoming personality. Ming leaves behind her husband of 30 years, Jim Ming, who was only informed that his wife had died after a family friend stopped by the hospital to visit.

Hospital officials have admitted that Ming died due to a medical error but have not disclosed what happened. At the time, Ming was at the hospital receiving treatment for ovarian cancer. The Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County Coroner are investigating her death.
