Nirav Tolia, the CEO of Nextdoor, a social network that connects neighbors to develop community and increase public safety, was charged with felony hit-and-run for allegedly fleeing a collision in Brisbane.
On August 4, 2013, Patrice Motley was driving home from San Francisco International Airport in her small Honda coupe when Tolia, in his BMW X5 SUV, began to move into her lane in order to pass up a slow vehicle in front of him. Motley honked at Tolia, who moved back into his lane. However, Motley lost control of her car, spun 180 degrees, and hit the concrete freeway median. Patrice Motley has filed a civil lawsuit against Tolia. In the complaint, Motley contends that Tolia “gambled” that no one took down his license plate number, but witnesses did, and police tracked him. Motley suffered injuries to her hand, neck, and back. Tolia has not responded to the civil suit.
Nirav Tolia is scheduled to appear in San Mateo County Superior Court on May 29 in the criminal matter.
