On March 23 rd around 1pm, a gravel truck crushed a 32 year-old woman to death when its load tipped over onto her car. The truck was making a delivery for a sidewalk construction project outside of the woman’s home in the East Bay.
The gravel truck driver claimed that he checked to make sure the car was a safe distance away from the delivery area, but the construction company reports one of their employees had asked Lindsey to move her car further away.
Witnesses report the car had only backed up a few feet before the load fell on top of her vehicle. At least three men tried to dig Combs out of the car before firefighters arrived, but found her crushed inside.
Fire officials stated that there may have been safety issues related to the stability and dump capacity of the truck while on a hill. The police and Cal-OSHA are both investigating this incident.
