Interstate Crash Involving Tour Bus Results in Multiple Casualties
At about 10:40 PM on Tuesday evening, a tour bus was heading northbound on Interstate Highway 880 near the Union City-Hayward border when it collided with and drove on top of the back of a Lexus, killing the driver (a 57-year-old woman from Hayward). The bus continued to roll forward and hit a 2011 Ford, which was then pushed into a UPS delivery vehicle, compressing the Ford between the two vehicles. The bus continued in motion and drove over top of the Ford, killing that driver as well (a 46-year-old man from San Lorenzo). The driver of the UPS truck (a 61-year-old man from Salinas) suffered neck injuries, and the tour bus driver (a 29-year-old man from Oakland) has no reported injuries.
All northbound lanes of I-880 were blocked for approximately 7 hours and reopened at 6:16 AM this morning. California Highway Patrol (CHP) is still investigating the accident, and anyone with relevant information should call CHP’s Hayward office at (510) 489-1500.
