Man Crushed to Death in Elevator Shaft at SF Montgomery Station

According to BART police, a man was crushed to death in an elevator shaft at the San Francisco Montgomery BART station. BART and San Francisco police responded to a report that someone was stuck in an elevator at the Montgomery station. The man who was rescued from the stalled elevator told police that he was going from the Muni level to the concourse level when he heard a loud crunch and a man yell. Authorities searched the area and found a man crushed to death in the elevator shaft.

BART personnel are unsure how the man got in the elevator shaft or how long he had been there. State elevator inspectors will examine the elevator to make sure it is safe before BART patrons resume using the elevator.
